What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Getting rid of unwanted facial and body hair is a common cosmetic goal for many women and men. An individual can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on products designed to remove hair temporarily. Laser treatments are approved by the FDA to permanently reduce hair on multiple areas of the body, include faces, legs, arms, backs, and chests.
How It Works
During laser hair removal the laser energy is absorbed by the dark pigment present in the shafts of hair follicles heating the pigment up until the follicles damaged and no longer able to produce new hair. Only follicles in an active growth phase are impacted. Because hair grows in cycles and it isn’t all in an active growth phase at once, multiple treatments are required to disable all follicles in the area desired.
Various laser hair removal systems exist. The LightSheer DUET is a versatile, state-of-the-art system that has revolutionized the procedure by making it effective for people of all skin and hair conditions. We perform the treatments in our office, and they can take a few minutes to an hour.
Our licensed aesthetician Shasta is highly trained in a wide range of technologies, products, and procedures. Her varied experience ensures the best course of treatment for your unique needs.
Our laser hair removal specialist, nurse practitioner Nancy Olsen, will begin your treatment by placing a cooled handpiece against your skin. Hundreds of hair follicles are treated in seconds as laser energy pulses through the handpiece. Although many patients tolerate the mild sting with little discomfort, you will have the option to have a topical anesthetic applied before the procedure.
The LightSheer system tends to attack hair in the active growth phase, so it usually takes at least 3 to 4 treatments to impact all follicles. The location, density, and resiliency of the treated hair also affect the number of treatments needed. Many patients make the most of their visit by having other non-surgical treatments while they are here such as BOTOX® Cosmetic injections or CoolSculpting® treatments.
You can return to your normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. It’s important to apply sunscreen on treated areas and limit exposure to the sun.Back to Top
