How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting works through a process called cryolipolysis, or “fat freezing.” It was discovered by Harvard scientists who noticed that children who ate a lot of popsicles developed dimples in their cheeks. This discovery evolved into an FDA-approved nonsurgical body contouring treatment safe to use on the abdomen, arms, thighs, chin, and more.

Here is how cryolipolysis works: When fat cells are cooled to a low enough temperature, they freeze and die, causing the body to flush them out naturally. Because fat freezes at a higher temperature than other body tissues, this all happens without causing any harm to your skin or muscles.

This process allows for a low- to no-downtime fat reduction treatment that does not require any needles, anesthesia, or incisions. Learn more about what the treatment experience is like in this previous blog post.

Will CoolSculpting Help Me Lose Weight?

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment but a body contouring treatment that reduces stubborn pockets of fat. It is not a substitute for diet and exercise. In fact, it works best as a complement to a healthy lifestyle.

What Kinds of Results Can I Expect?

In clinical studies, CoolSculpting was proven to reduce fat by up to 20% in a treated area after a single session. Some people find that a single session is all they need to see results they love, while others opt for 2 or 3 appointments to reduce even more fat. Keep in mind these results appear gradually over 1 to 3 months after your session. Unless you experience any major weight fluctuations, your new look will last for good.
