Myth Debunked: Fillers Aren’t Just for Women

As a plastic surgeon, I realize that dermal fillers and other procedures at our med spa here in Pocatello have a reputation as being just for women. But the truth is, men have just as much use for these products, and their popularity among this population is steadily rising. Still, like all plastic surgery procedures and medical spa treatments, fillers achieve different things for men and women, because they approach the treatment session with different goals.

Women typically use fillers to achieve delicate, feminine facial contours as well as smoother, less visible wrinkles. Common treatment areas for women include the high lateral cheeks (for defined cheekbones) and the lips (for a more voluptuous pout). Women often combine fillers with other types of facial rejuvenation that also work to smooth out unwanted wrinkles, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or a laser or light-based therapy.

On the other hand, men choose fillers to “square off” their features, enhancing a masculine, chiseled appearance. Fillers are also popular with men because they can more subtly turn back the clock, rather than creating a more dramatic transformation. With men, we often use fillers to add volume beneath the eyes, in the midface, or along the jawline. Dermal fillers also appeal to men simply because they’re minimally invasive. Rather than requiring a lot of preparation or downtime, today’s male patients can come in during their lunch hour and look instantly refreshed without any scarring or downtime.

In short, we all share the concern of maintaining our youth and vibrance. We just approach it a little bit differently. If you’d like to talk with us about how dermal fillers might work for you, please contact us to request your consultation.
